Volunteer Jobs
Info Desk
What is it?
A desk, which provides information!
Why do it?
Be one step ahead of the rest, with the most up to date information about shows and events. Help solve people's problems e.g. by pointing the way to the local pharmacy. This is a great way to meet people, and sit down and relax for a 2 hour shift, and have a chat with your co-worker(s) who will probably be from a different country from you.
| What skills do I need? A smile European languages would be very helpful! Irish people take note - we will need people with local knowledge to help our international visitors. | ![]() |
Badge Control
What is it?
Checking peoples passes at entrances to the site. Volunteers, in pairs, will be needed for 2 hour shifts during the daytime and evening. Overnight the responsibility will be passed to our professional security team.
Why do it?
Because it is vital for the EJC's survival that people pay their fair share. If people sneak in for free, the pre-reg price goes up to compensate. Protect your convention by sitting in a comfy chair saying hello to people for a couple of hours (and looking for their convention passes!)

Cleaners
What is it?
Picking up litter around the site, cleaning up workshop spaces, big tops and hall, and cleaning the showers.
Why do it?
Having a clean EJC site is better for everyone! If we each spend just 1 hour doing basic cleaning work, our site will be safer and more pleasant for us.
What skills do I need?
Common sense
Rubber gloves (provided)
Steward
What is it?
Assisting with the parade and directing people to their seats at the gala show.
Why do it?
It's a fun way to see all of the action close up.
What skills do I need?
Just attend the pre-parade and gala show workshops, and all will be explained!
Infrastructure
What is it?
Helping us to build, maintain and take down the EJC site. Most work will be done in the day or two before the convention, but we always need more people to move fencing, bins etc…
Why do it?
See all the work that goes into creating your EJC, and be part of it. Learn how a big top goes up. See also no. 5 in the volunteer FAQ (Can I come early to help with setup?)
What skills do I need?
Experience of tent rigging and festival construction would be beneficial.
Willingness to do heavy physical work as part of a team.
Trades - plumber/electrician/carpenter etc and experience with machinery - fork-lift driver/cherry picker operator etc - would be really useful - let us know if this applies to you!
Decoration
What is it?
Making the EJC site a more beautiful and inspiring place to be. This can be as simple as bringing a colorful flag for your tent or a costume for the parade. Or a costume just because you like costumes. Alternatively it could involve painting backdrops or wall hangings, or anything else that you can think of that would brighten up our site and workshop spaces.
Why do it?
To make everybody smile.
What skills do I need?
Ideas
Artistic ability would be a bonus, but isn't essential!
Fire Marshal
What is it?
Supervising at the fire performance area, and keeping everyone safe, by knowing where the safety equipment is and how to use it.
Why do it?
Fire Marshals will be trained by our health and safety consultant, so this is an excellent opportunity to hone your fire safety skills.
A perfect excuse (as if you needed one) to hang out at the fire area, chat to everyone, and watch some great performers.
You'll get a cool t-shirt to bring home!
What skills do I need?
Common sense
The ability to stay sober and vigilant when on duty
Runner
What is it?
Doing errands around the site, going to the shop for supplies, giving volunteers hot drinks, picking artists up from the train station, helping out backstage… Volunteer for a half day and see where you end up!
Why do it?
Get to meet everyone, from the stars of the gala show to the local DIY shop owner. A true behind the scenes look at how an EJC is run.
What skills do I need?
Sense of direction
Energy
Drivers' license and vehicle would be useful but not essential
Technical
What is it?
Being sound or lighting engineer for shows, or acting as stage manager.
Why do it?
Be directly involved in the shows, and create something that everyone at the EJC will enjoy.
What skills do I need?
Previous experience and expertise is essential in this area. If you have relevant qualifications, or in particular if you have helped out as tech crew at previous EJC's, contact Dap at david@ejc2006.net
