Volunteering FAQ

If you can think of more questions that should be included here, email me at helen@ejc2006.net or post them in the volunteers forum.

1. Can I volunteer at EJC 2006?

Yes! Please do!
The EJC is run ENTIRELY by volunteers - that includes the organizers, the EJA board and reps…everybody. If we had to hire people to do all the work, your pre-reg price would be at least 3 times what it is. We ask that people give up about 2 hours of their time during the week to do badge control or pick up litter - that way everything runs smoothly, and the same people don't have to do it all the time.

2. If I volunteer can I get in for free?

NO! If all of the volunteers got in for free, your pre-reg price would be far higher. Even we, the organizers, pay, just like anyone else, even though we've been losing sleep over this for 2 years already. Please pre-register in the same way as anyone else.

3. So what's in it for me?

The EJC is run by jugglers for jugglers. If jugglers don't volunteer, there won't be any convention. Equally importantly, volunteering at an EJC is a fantastic way to see behind the scenes of what has become a large festival. It offers the chance to meet even more jugglers from all over Europe.

If you're still not convinced, there will be rewards in place for volunteers. These will take the form of gifts to remember the convention by, some meals, and a reserved section of prime seats for the gala show.

4. Can I come early and help with setup?

We will be onsite from a few days before the EJC to set up big tops etc. We will need some volunteers to help us with this. However, please arrange this in advance with us. Our site is used for many events during the summer. If you come a week early, they will not let you camp there as they have other events running. If you want to be part of our setup team, contact Helen@ejc2006.net . Be warned, anyone on site before the EJC officially opens will be put to work! This will most likely involve heavy lifting and long days, however setup volunteers will be given their meals as a thank you for all of their hard work.

5. Can I stay late and help with cleanup?

Again, we will need some volunteers for cleanup after the EJC. This will be done as quickly as possible, within 1-2 days. Anyone who remains on the site after the EJC will be put to work! Once cleanup has finished, EVERYONE must vacate the site. There will be other events on the site shortly after the EJC, and they will not let people stay there for very long after it finishes!

6. Can I volunteer to give a workshop?

Yes, please do! If people didn't volunteer to give workshops, there wouldn't be any. You can sign up to give workshops when you arrive on site. If you have a particularly unusual or ambitious idea, let us know beforehand at stephen@ejc2006.net.

7. What jobs can I volunteer for?

There is a list of volunteer jobs here. If you have any ideas or suggestions of things that you would like to do, email me at Helen@ejc2006.net

8. Where do I sign up?
